Snowflake Lattes and Thankfulness

In the spirit of counting blessings and thankfulness, here are some things I don’t want to forget about this week from the adventures of boyhood: While cleaning up dinner my view being three boys in boxes from Costco, armed with Nerf guns, moving to the Imperial March from Stars Wars.

Creating a new recipe together that we named Snowflake Latte (steamed milk, cinnamon, maple syrup and vanilla) and drinking them from the mugs from Grammy’s ole cabin.

  • warm 1 cup (per serving) over medium- low heat
  • Add a splash of maple syrup
  • Add a splash of vanilla
  • Add a dash of cinnamon
  • Whisk constantly, all ingredients while warming milk – once the milk starts steaming, it’s done
  • Serve in fancy tea cups and snuggle on the couch with your babes!

Stopping by Amma’s grave to lay some winter plumes with the boys – Benny wiping my tears. She loved the changing seasons, and especially the holiday season. She made it so magical, which makes her absence heavier.

Tucking them into to bed tonight was just sweet, though ended with smelling armpits and declaring “how stinky”. I think the busyness of boyhood is becoming a familiar friend and somehow it’s a calm to my day – like I’d be lost without it. And I’m realizing when – the lights are already out and “I’ve told you to get in bed but you’re still practicing your football/ninja/basketball etc moves” quietly (or loudly) in your room – it is the soaking in of the last few moments of the day before drifting off to Neverland. Because every moment is an adventure.

It’s the little moments that build upon one another and create this beautiful life in which each day is a gift and for each I am thankful to the ends of the earth.

AND the chicken has nothing to do with any of the above. But this chicken’s name is Georgiana and her Mohawk hair is my favorite (she’s an olive egger – the Lord love her) I have added to my morning routine the chicken’s daily feeding and it’s one of the best ways to start a day. In our current brood of chicks we ended up with two surprise roosters, and their pubescent cock-a-doodle-do-ing in the morning make me smile. We shall see how long before we get caught having roosters in town.

What small, yet powerful blessings have touched your heart this week? This year?
