At least once a week my boys will ask for burgers, and it’s become our normal Friday Eve rhythm, every Thursday night. Burgers with homemade burger sauce and fried potatoes, to celebrate the tomorrow being Friday. And I remember a time when the boys would barely be able to eat half a burger. Now 2 out of the 3 are double-quarter-pounder consumers, which is what inspired us to purchase half a cow from Farmer Gary – bless. I also married a man to loves sauces of all kinds, who then passed along this gene to our sons, so one day I threw together a few ingredients to make our own burger sauce and it’s become the star of the show every Thursday. I love that it is made from scratch with no weird preservatives or extra sweeteners. Just the perfect addition to any burger night, easy prep, perfect balance of flavors and a classic burger sauce recipe everyone will love! Enjoy a Holm favorite – our burger secret sauce!

Why You Will Love This Recipe:

  • Classic burger flavor at home – It tastes just like your favorite diner or drive-in sauce, but better, and with a handful of ingredients.
  • Quick & easy – Just toss simple ingredients from the grocery store in a blender and it’s ready in minutes.
  • Creamy Sauce – tangy, and perfectly balanced – The mayo adds richness, ketchup brings sweetness, and pickles give that irresistible tang.
  • Versatile – It’s not just for burgers—dip fries, drizzle on sandwiches, or spoon it onto grilled chicken to add so much flavor.
  • Make-ahead friendly – The flavor gets even better after chilling, making it perfect for cookouts and meal prep.
  • Naturally gluten-free – No special swaps needed, just double-check your condiments.

Ingredients For Homemade Hamburger Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise – full-fat mayo gives the creamiest texture and best flavor
  • ¼ cup ketchup – adds sweetness and classic burger flavor
  • 1 tablespoon mustard – yellow mustard for a traditional taste, or Dijon for a slightly tangy upgrade
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped dill pickle – chop very small so it blends smoothly
  • ½ tablespoon pickle juice – the pickle brine adds tang and balances the richness
  • Pinch of ground black pepper – adjust to taste
  • Pinch of salt – start small and add more if needed

Instructions:

  1. Add the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, chopped dill pickle, pickle juice, salt, and pepper to a blender or stand mixer (KitchenAid fitted with the paddle attachment works great).
  2. Blend or mix on medium speed until the sauce is completely smooth, creamy, and evenly combined, about 20–30 seconds. Scrape down the sides as needed to ensure everything is well incorporated.
  3. Taste and adjust seasoning—add more pickle juice for tang, mustard for zip, or salt to enhance the flavor.
  4. Transfer the sauce to a glass jar or airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld (optional, but highly recommended).
