Creamy, Homemade Alfredo Sauce Recipe (Quick & Easy)

| |

Is there anything better than homemade Alfredo sauce? I think little else is as delicious and cozy as fresh, homemade, creamy, and full-of-flavor Alfredo sauce. Gluten-free Alfredo sauce is best, and that is what we are cooking up on this blog today! This creamy Alfredo sauce recipe is an easy recipe with the best flavor, and one the whole family will love!

In my last year of college, I lived in an apartment off campus and we would pride ourselves in cooking dinners all on our own. Our version of chicken fettuccine alfredo was rotisserie chicken, cheap noodles and a jar of alfredo sauce from Albertson’s LOL. If only we knew how easy and inexpensive homemade alfredo sauce can be (and so much more delicious!).

Easy dinner idea – Our favorite way to enjoy this delicious alfredo sauce is with grilled chicken (or oven roasted), skillet roasted vegetables and gluten-free noodles (I love the Jovial brand – so good and clean ingredients). We loving call this meal chicken pomodoro (which is not the correct vernacular – but somehow it’s become a family tradition) and it’s one oof our favorite pasta dishes because it’s a simple recipe, the best way to enjoy real alfredo sauce and it makes a big batch so there are lots of leftovers for another dinner or for lunches!

Storage:

I prefer to store my leftover Alfredo sauce in a mason jar, but as long as it’s an airtight container, you’re good! Store the jar of alfredo sauce in the refrigerator for up to a week. This makes it easy to enjoy the sauce throughout the week without losing its creamy texture and delicious flavor.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Low Heat: Always keep the burner on low heat to prevent the sauce from separating or scorching.
  • Reheating: To reheat, warm in the microwave using 20-second intervals, stirring in between. Alternatively, reheat in a saucepan over low heat, stirring continuously until warmed through.
  • Extra Flavor: Add a teaspoon or two of rosemary to the sauce for an extra level of flavor. This herb pairs beautifully with the creamy sauce and adds a fragrant touch.
  • Serving Suggestions: This sauce is perfect for chicken fettuccine Alfredo night. It also pairs well with other types of pasta, such as penne or rigatoni, and can be used as a dipping sauce for breadsticks or drizzled over vegetables.

Perfect Pairings:

  • Pasta: Alfredo sauce is a classic pairing with fettuccine, but it also works well with other pasta shapes. Try it with penne, rigatoni, or even spaghetti for a delightful twist.
  • Protein: Add grilled chicken, sautéed shrimp, or pan-seared scallops to your Alfredo pasta for a protein-packed meal. The sauce enhances the flavor of the protein, making each bite delicious.
  • Vegetables: Incorporate steamed broccoli, roasted red peppers, or sautéed mushrooms into your Alfredo pasta. The creamy sauce coats the vegetables perfectly, adding richness to the dish.
  • Bread: Serve with garlic bread or breadsticks to soak up any extra sauce. The combination of the creamy Alfredo and the crisp, buttery bread is irresistible.

Why Homemade is Best:

Making Alfredo sauce from scratch not only ensures it’s gluten-free but also allows you to control the quality of ingredients. Freshly grated Parmesan cheese and real butter create a richer, more authentic flavor compared to store-bought versions. Plus, you can customize the sauce to your taste, adjusting the seasonings and adding herbs or spices to suit your preferences.

Troubleshooting:

  • Sauce Too Thick: If your sauce is too thick, add a splash of milk or cream to thin it out to your desired consistency. Whisk continuously to incorporate the liquid smoothly.
  • Sauce Too Thin: If the sauce is too thin, let it simmer for a few more minutes to reduce and thicken. You can also add a bit more cheese to help thicken it up.
  • Lumpy Sauce: To prevent lumps, make sure to add the cheese slowly and whisk continuously. If lumps do form, you can strain the sauce through a fine-mesh sieve to smooth it out.
